About

My name is Anders Steen Jørgensen and I have created this blog to keep a diary of my bike trip from San Francisco to New York in the summer of 2019. I live in Denmark and am 56 years old.

I got the idea a few years ago when I read a book of a Danish journalist who cycled across the US in an election year. A tour went on the bucket list for some day when time allowed – maybe after retirement. My two daughters advised that I should not wait, who knew if I could do it then? Catalyzed by this depressing encouragement, I started to mature the plans and along the way managed to get my Boss’ OK for a leave and even recruit a good friend, Troels, with a similar dream.

Looking at this bicycle frame of one of my bikes inspired me to pursue the dream.

Why US? Why from the West to the East? Good points for a blog post later but for now just to say that it was probably just meant to be. My first sensation of “Bicycle Equilibrium” was in a garden outside Seattle in 1968. You know the feeling when you suddenly look back at your big brother who has promised to hold the bike steady and never to let go just to realize that he has let go and you are staying upright nevertheless.

The blog is in English and I beg both fellow Danes’ and native English speaking readers’ pardon. It is not going to be pretty but I hope that I can make myself understood and expand my reading audience from one to two digit.
